USPS Form 1583 is required by federal regulations for all customers using a Commercial Mail Receiving Agency (CMRA), like DigitalMailboxPro. It authorizes us to receive and handle mail on your behalf. Without this form, we legally cannot scan, forward, or release your mail to you.
You’ll need two forms of identification:
One photo ID (e.g., driver’s license, passport, state-issued ID, etc.)
One address ID (e.g., home or vehicle insurance, lease, mortgage statement, etc.)
Both IDs must match the name and address you provide.
The complete ID guidelines accepted by the USPS are listed in Sections 8 and 9 of USPS Form 1583.
Yes, if you're not signing the form in person at our facility or via a Zoom Video call.
You can choose:
A in-person appointment with us in Bethlehem, PA
A Zoom-based appointment with our staff
An online notary (additional fee may apply)
We’ll guide you through whichever option works best for you.
Yes! Once your USPS Form 1583 is approved, your DigitalMailboxPro address is valid for receiving both personal mail and business mail and can be used on business registration, marketing materials, and more. Please see FAQ 6 for additional cost information. Please note that some government licensing agencies may have specific requirements; check with them directly for confirmation.
Your mailbox cannot be activated, and mail cannot be released to you. If you’ve already paid, we’ll hold your mail temporarily, but access will remain restricted until the form is completed and approved. After a few days, we are required to return all mail to the sender as undeliverable until the USPS Form 1583 is completed and uploaded to the USPS database.
Any time your name, address, ID, a business name is added or authorized recipients change, the USPS requires a new USPS Form 1583 to be completed and reverified. This protects your privacy and prevents unauthorized individuals from accessing your mail. It’s a federal security requirement, not just our policy. We’ll guide you through the reverification process to keep your mailbox active and compliant.
